The circus festival of the Diputación de Sevilla offers ten shows from Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25 in Camas, Mairena del Alcor, Castilleja de Guzmán, Bormujos, Lebrija, Umbrete, Brenes, Gines, Castilblanco de los Arroyos and Morón de la Frontera. Most are free.
The CIRKTOBER festival faces its last four days with ten performances spread across as many municipalities in the province. From Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25, the squares and theatres of these towns host contemporary circus, juggling, balancing and flamenco circus acts, according to the Diputación de Sevilla.
A mostly free programme
Most of the performances are free to attend. Those held indoors have reduced prices, as the provincial institution details. The festival brings circus to municipalities with less cultural infrastructure.
From the diabolo to flamenco
The programme starts on Thursday, October 22 with Eva Escudier and her show Sentadita me quedé at Plaza Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Camas, at 18:00.
On Friday, October 23 there are four events. Zirkozaurre presents Ejes at Plaza de Antonio Mairena in Mairena del Alcor at 18:00. Nacho Flores brings Domte to Plaza de España in Castilleja de Guzmán at 19:00. At 20:00, El Hombre Globo performs with Flex at Teatro Juan Diego in Bormujos and Truca Circus performs Alboroto at Teatro Municipal Juan Bernabé in Lebrija.
On Saturday, October 24, Nacho Flores repeats Domte at Jardines del Merendero in Umbrete at 12:00 and Zirkozaurre returns with Ejes at Plazoleta de la Barriada San Sebastián in Brenes at 18:00.
On Sunday, October 25 the festival closes: Domte at Teatro Municipal in Gines at 17:00, Ejes at Plaza de San Benito Abad in Castilblanco de los Arroyos at 17:30 and Alboroto at Teatro Oriente in Morón de la Frontera at 17:30.
What you can see
The shows combine humour, visual poetry, music and audience participation. Ejes brings back the diabolo as a connecting thread; Domte mixes balancing, stage structures and live music with a mythological imagery; Flex adds acrobatics, balloon modelling and humour; and Alboroto, co-produced by the festival, combines circus, music, hip hop and flamenco rhythms.
To attend
The performances in squares are free and do not require prior registration. For the indoor performances, the reduced price must be checked in each municipality. The festival runs until Sunday, October 25.
The Diputación de Sevilla organises CIRKTOBER, now in its third edition. This year's poster is by Daniel Diosdado.
