The councils of Fuentes de Andalucía and Lantejuela have secured the commitment of the Regional Ministry of Public Works to repair the A-407 with an estimated investment of about eight million euros. The first phase will begin in the first half of November.
The A-407 road, which links Fuentes de Andalucía and Lantejuela with Osuna, will undergo work in two phases. The Regional Ministry of Public Works and Mobility of the Regional Government of Andalusia has presented the improvement project to the mayors of both municipalities, with an estimated budget of about eight million euros, and has chosen to intervene immediately at the most deteriorated points without waiting for full execution.
Resurfacing in November
The first phase will be carried out during the first half of November. It consists of renewing the road surface on the most deteriorated sections between Osuna and the junction with the A-364, as well as the stretch through Lantejuela. These are already scheduled works, to be carried out through the Extraordinary Resurfacing Plan.
In parallel, surveys will be carried out on the ground, with specialised personnel and machinery, on the section between Fuentes de Andalucía and the A-364. These preliminary works prepare the second phase.
Deeper works in 2027
The second phase is planned for the first half of 2027. It will not be limited to renewing the road surface: it will include deep excavations to repair the section between Fuentes de Andalucía and the A-364, provided that weather conditions and rainfall allow it. According to the mayor of Fuentes de Andalucía, Francisco J. Martínez, the Regional Government's first proposal for that section was less thorough and the local government's demands have made the work deeper.
A decade of complaints
The councils attribute the progress to sustained work in recent years and to citizen mobilisation. The demand began more than a decade ago and intensified from 2024. In October of that year, together with Osuna, they held a meeting with the Deputy Ministry, which undertook to prepare preliminary studies in the first quarter of 2025. In view of the failure to meet that deadline, on June 4, 2025 more than 600 residents of Fuentes de Andalucía, Lantejuela and Osuna took part in a joint protest and a blockade of the A-407. At the end of July 2025 the Regional Government announced the start of drafting a project for the most deteriorated sections. In September 2026 an assembly agreed a new calendar of protests, and on October 18, 2026 a demonstration was held in Fuentes de Andalucía.
The next appointment, in Lantejuela
The gathering planned for Sunday, October 25 at 12:00 in Lantejuela remains in place. Details of the meeting will be given there and the councils invite all citizens to take part.
The mayor of Lantejuela, Juan Lora, has stated that seeking the solution through the maintenance company rather than through a tender avoids a delay of at least a year. Both councils assure that they will remain vigilant to ensure that the deadlines are met.
