Work begins on the San Pablo park: new play equipment, calisthenics and a zip line
The Écija City Council has started the renovation of the Parque de San Pablo, which includes replacing the children's play equipment in the south sandpit, a calisthenics area and a zip line for children aged 6 and over. The contract amounts to 299,163.49 euros and the works must be completed by the end of the year.
Work on the Parque de San Pablo is already under way. The project includes replacing the children's play equipment in the south sandpit, installing a calisthenics area and setting up a zip line for children aged 6 and over on the lawn in the north area of the park. According to the Écija City Council, the works are progressing at a good pace and are expected to finish by the end of the year.
What local residents will find
The park will also have 21 new trees of 21 different species, with drip irrigation. Specifically, four Chinese soapberry trees, three fruitless mulberry trees, two jacarandas, seven nettle trees, one magnolia and four tipuana trees will be planted, as detailed by the councillor for Urban Planning, Ángel Peña.
The company HPC Ibérica, which also handles the maintenance of the city's parks, is carrying out the works. The contract has been formalised for 299,163.49 euros including VAT and is financed through the Diputación's Más Sevilla programme.
The removed play equipment will not be reused
Peña explained that some groups have asked for the removed play equipment to be reused, which will not be possible because it is no longer certifiable as it is obsolete. What will be done is to use loose parts to repair and improve other children's play equipment in Écija, as spare parts in future repairs.
The mayor, Silvia Heredia, says that replacing children's play equipment is needed throughout the city, but that they have started with the Parque de San Pablo because of its high footfall every afternoon and weekend and because the sandpit was quite damaged. Regarding the calisthenics area, Heredia stresses that it was much demanded by the public because it does not exist anywhere in the city.
A park for families
Heredia describes the park as a place where many families gather, with children's play equipment, wooded areas and shade to enjoy the mornings and afternoons, do sport or go for a walk.
