The 4th year ESO and Bachillerato students at Instituto El Molinillo in Guillena, around 452 students aged between 15 and 17, are taking part in the project 'STEM en Primera Persona: Galería Viva de Referentes'. It is organised by the Equality Department of Guillena Town Council with the aim of raising awareness of equality in the workplace at a stage when decisions are made about studies and career paths.

Companies led by women

The first session has already been held and featured the participation of two companies led by women in a sector with a male majority. Coral Romero Fernández, from Sanycon, and Yesenia Castillo Castaño, from Logística Castillo, took part.

Why it is aimed at adolescence

The Town Council explains that adolescence and youth are a stage especially sensitive to the internalisation of gender roles and expectations. That is why it frames the initiative among coeducation actions aimed at eradicating roles and stereotypes from an early age and promoting equality, coexistence and diversity. The Council also notes that local labour market indicators point to persistent gender gaps, with a clear feminisation of unemployment and inequality in access to employment or in job stability, whether by sector, type of working day or care responsibilities.

What the project is

The initiative is presented as a living gallery of role models: women working in technical and scientific fields tell their experience directly to the students. The project is developed at the school itself, Instituto El Molinillo, with the collaboration of companies from the municipality.
