Gelves hosts on Saturday the 24th Provincial Homemade Rice Recipe Competition

The contest is held on Saturday, October 17 at Puerto Gelves, within the 10th River and Sea Gastronomic Fair, with five prizes of between 200 and 600 euros for the participants.
Gelves celebrates this weekend the tenth edition of the Río y Sabor 2026 River and Sea Gastronomic Fair, which takes place from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18 at Puerto Gelves. Within its programme, on Saturday, October 17 at 12:00 hours the XXIV Concurso de Recetas Caseras de Arroz de la Provincia de Sevilla begins, organised by the Diputación de Sevilla through Prodetur-Turismo de la Provincia and linked to the Sabores de la Provincia de Sevilla brand.
Who can take part
The competition is aimed at people of legal age residing in any of the twelve municipalities that make up the Ruta del Arroz of the province and who do not represent hospitality establishments. The dishes must have rice as the main ingredient, in the form of soupy rice, creamy rice or paellas. The jury will assess the homemade character and the use of traditional methods, as well as the flavour, aroma and presentation.
Five prizes
Five prizes will be awarded, endowed with 600, 500, 400, 300 and 200 euros respectively. The tasting by the jury will begin at 13:30 hours and the prize ceremony is scheduled for 15:00 hours. The contest is travelling and returns to Gelves, a municipality that already hosted it in 2008 and 2019; in recent editions it was held in Utrera, Lebrija, Dos Hermanas, Isla Mayor and La Puebla del Río.
Fair and showcooking
The fair opens this Friday, October 16 with an institutional event at 19:30 hours, followed by a tour of the exhibitors. At 20:00 hours, chef Enrique Sánchez will offer a gastronomic demonstration in which he will prepare the recipe Arroz con sabor a río, in collaboration with the Arrozúa cooperative, from Isla Mayor. At 21:00 hours there will be a rice tasting. Prodetur will also have a promotional space for seven companies belonging to Sabores de la Provincia de Sevilla: Quesería Artesanal Flor de Cazalla (Cazalla de la Sierra), Hermanos Gutiérrez Bermejo (Las Navas de la Concepción), Chocolates Mamá Goye (Bollullos de la Mitación), Quesos Mena y Almazara El Pinalejo (Morón de la Frontera), La Alquería de Pruna (Pruna) and Puleos Bakery (Gelves).

The opening of the fair and the competition are expected to be attended by the vice-president of Prodetur, Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, and the mayor of Gelves, Isabel Herrera.
