Dorantes to receive the Caracol de Oro of the Caracolá Lebrijana in 2027
The organizing committee of the Caracolá Lebrijana has agreed to designate the Lebrijano pianist and composer David Peña Dorantes as the Caracol de Oro of 2027, the highest recognition awarded by the festival.
The pianist and composer from Lebrija David Peña Dorantes will receive the 2027 Caracol de Oro, the highest recognition awarded by the Caracolá Lebrijana. This has been agreed by the festival's organizing committee, which honors the artist for his career and for his contribution to the evolution and dissemination of flamenco.
A pianist who paved the way
Dorantes was born into an Andalusian Roma family linked to cante jondo, which includes his uncle Juan Peña El Lebrijano and his grandmother La Perrata. He trained at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla, where he studied piano, harmony and composition, and developed his own language for the flamenco piano as a solo instrument, without limiting himself to reproducing the resources of the guitar.
His music combines flamenco tradition with elements of jazz and classical music. He has performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Brussels, the Teatro Maestranza in Sevilla, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. His albums include Orobroy, Sur, Sin Muros, Paseo a Dos, El Tiempo por Testigo, La Roda del Viento and Identidad.
Awards
His career has received, among other awards, five Giraldillos from the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, the Premio de las Artes Musicales de Andalucía Joaquín de la Orden, two Demófilo awards, the Premio Internacional Manolo Sanlúcar and the Medalla de Oro de Sevilla.
With this distinction, the organization recognizes a creator who has brought the name of Lebrija to the international music scene.
