The Lebrija-born communicator and entrepreneur Manuel Martínez has received the Tourism Award at the third edition of the Premios Andaluces Voces del Sur, organised by the newspaper La Voz del Sur with the sponsorship of the Diputación de Sevilla through its instrumental company. The award was presented by the vice-president of Prodetur, Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, during a gala held in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz).

Who has been awarded

Manuel Martínez is a reporter on the programme Andaluces por el Mundo and owner of the restaurant La Manuela, in Chipiona. The jury has recognised his professional career and his connection with the tourism and gastronomic promotion of Andalusia. In the business field, the awards have distinguished Salvador Ruiz, of Ferretería Xerez, with the Career Award; Alonso J. Torralva, general director of the Private Security Division, with the Entrepreneurship Award; and Pepe Ruiz, first director of the Hotel Novo Sancti Petri, with the Promotion Award.

The rest of the awards

The Culture Award has gone to the Fundación Caballero Bonald; the Research Award, to the HERA Project, of the IMIBIC of Córdoba; the Sustainability Award, to Chiclana Natural; and the Social Award, to the Fundación López Mariscal. These awards recognise the career and contribution of people, companies and entities that stand out in fields such as culture, tourism, entrepreneurship, research or solidarity, and that contribute to the development and projection of Andalusia, according to the Diputación.

The role of the media

Rodríguez Hans stressed during his speech that «Andalusia is also the talent of those who raise the shutter of their business every morning, of those who decide to start a business, of those who dedicate years to research or of those who work for others». He also highlighted the role of the media and of La Voz del Sur in making these careers known, and recalled that «there is a lot of good news in our towns that also deserves to make headlines». The gala brought together institutional, business and civil society representatives from Andalusia in Chiclana de la Frontera.
