The works to divert the Huesna pipeline outside the urban centre are already under way. The project replaces and diverts 7.4 kilometres of pipeline between the Guadalquivir river and the El Granadillo area, in the municipalities of Tocina and Villanueva del Río y Minas, and has been awarded for 14.26 million euros. The aim is to move the section where recurring breakdowns have occurred in recent years away from populated areas and to strengthen the safety of the water supply in the northern sector of the network. The most serious ruptures were the one in June 2025 in Los Rosales and the one on April 6, 2026 in the Vera Cruz neighbourhood.

Less pipeline under the houses

When the new pipeline comes into service, the 6,360 metres of the old reinforced concrete main, the section where the ruptures were concentrated, will be permanently decommissioned. According to the Ayuntamiento de Tocina, moving that pipeline out of the urban centre is the best safety guarantee for the residents who have suffered the consequences of these breakdowns in their homes. The mayor of Tocina and Los Rosales, Francisco José Calvo, has said that they had been asking for a definitive solution since the Estación de Los Rosales neighbourhood was flooded and that it is now being carried out.

Part of a 42 million plan

The project is one of the main ones in the Action Plan for the improvement of the high-level transport network, approved unanimously by the Junta General del Consorcio de Aguas del Huesna in July 2025, with an overall investment of 42 million euros. That plan also includes the diversion already carried out in Los Jinetes, in Carmona, and new connections with the Emasesa network. This Wednesday the works were visited by the president of the Diputación de Sevilla and of the Consorcio de Aguas del Huesna, Javier Fernández, together with the deputy for the Area of Supramunicipal Public Services, Gonzalo Domínguez, and the mayor of Tocina and Los Rosales, Francisco José Calvo.
