The XXI Conference on History and Heritage of the Province of Seville is held on Saturday, October 24, at the Centro Cívico Tomás y Valiente in Los Rosales, in Tocina. The event, organized by the Ayuntamiento de Tocina and the Asociación Provincial Sevillana de Cronistas e Investigadores Locales (ASCIL), brings together researchers and specialists to delve into the history and industrial heritage of the province. The choice of Los Rosales as the venue coincides with the centenary of the opening of the Azucarera San Fernando, an industry that, according to the Ayuntamiento, was key to the economic and social development of the town. The factory operated until 1986 and shaped the life of the municipality for six decades. Its activity, together with the railway and the agricultural transformation of the territory, contributed to the growth of the population and the shaping of its identity.

Conference program

Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. with the official presentation by the mayor of Tocina and Los Rosales, Francisco José Calvo Pozo, and the president of ASCIL, Bartolomé Miranda Díaz. The program includes talks and papers on the industrial evolution of the province, the railway, agriculture, the landscape, engineering, the world of work and collective memory. Among the scheduled presentations, Julián Sobrino Simal will address the construction of the industrial territory of Seville between the 19th and 20th centuries, and Juan Carlos Jiménez Barrientos will give a talk on Miguel Giménez Yanguas and his relationship with historical engineering and industrial heritage. Los Rosales and its evolution, the history of the Azucarera San Fernando and the development of various productive sectors of the province will be the focus of other papers.
