The Plaza de España in La Rinconada hosted the fourth edition of El Códice on Sunday, November 1, a day that transported the historic centre back to the Middle Ages with tradition, gastronomy and activities for all ages, according to the Ayuntamiento. The morning began with the First Medieval School Tournament, organised together with the AMPAS and aimed at Primary Education pupils. The Los Azahares and San José schools took part, whose students faced various challenges set in the medieval period. Throughout the day, attendees were able to browse the food and drink stalls in the square and taste a medieval lunch prepared by the Hermandad de la Salud and the Hermandad de la Resurrección. In the afternoon, both brotherhoods offered a selection of homemade pastries with traditional sweets. The children's programme included handcrafted wooden medieval games, face painting and archery. In addition, craft workshops and a pottery workshop were added, in which the children were able to get closer to this ancient trade. As evening fell came the performance of the children's play «Lo que suena por Bretaña». To close, Aura Flamenca, under the direction of David Sálezmar, performed the Cantigas de Alfonso X el Sabio with adaptation and translation to make them easier for the audience to understand. The Culture delegate, Raquel Vega, said that El Códice is «identity, people and culture» and thanked the educational community, the brotherhoods, the residents, the hospitality sector and the collaborating companies for their participation. The mayor, Javier Fernández, stressed that the event strengthens civic coexistence and values the traditions of the municipality.
