Anyone travelling on high speed between Madrid and Sevilla will notice changes in the coming months. The line's frequencies will be reduced until two works are completed: the full deployment of the ERTMS N2 signalling system (European Rail Traffic Management System, level 2) and an extraordinary audit of the safety systems. The Council of Ministers has taken note of a report with proposals to optimise high-speed safety, as the body has announced. The reduction in frequencies will be maintained, foreseeably, until the beginning of 2027. That is the date being handled for both the deployment of ERTMS N2 and the audit, which will be carried out by the State Railway Safety Agency, to be completed. That audit will update the one already carried out in November 2025. The report starts from the accidents recorded on the Madrid-Sevilla corridor, which in the Government's view make it necessary to strengthen the Spanish railway system and to improve action protocols in exceptional circumstances. The Council of Ministers has also addressed Spain's voluntary contribution to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). On that point it is recalled that at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), held in Sevilla in July 2025, the Sevilla Commitment was adopted, which recognises the need to strengthen domestic resource mobilisation and the quality, transparency and availability of data to guide sustainable development policies and evaluate their results.
