Four visits and supervised exercise

Those who take part will make four visits. At these, the health status of the pregnant woman is assessed on a personalised basis, muscle-strengthening and stationary bike exercise sessions are carried out and blood glucose levels are monitored. The programme is supervised by healthcare professionals from the hospital and by sports professionals, and is adapted to the needs of each pregnant woman. The research is carried out at the Centro de Investigación en Rendimiento Físico y Deportivo de la Universidad Pablo de Olavide and the researcher Miguel Ángel Oviedo, from the Universidad de Sevilla, also takes part in it. The study follows the safety recommendations of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and of the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

A report for each participant

As explained by Isabel Corrales, gynaecologist at the Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, participants will receive personalised information on how their body responds to exercise and a complete health report, as well as contributing to scientific knowledge about pregnancy and type 1 diabetes. The researchers' aim is to confirm that well-programmed exercise is an effective tool for improving health and keeping glucose levels stable during pregnancy.
