The Hermandad del Santo Entierro de Paradas closed this Sunday the events of its half-century with a mass by the archbishop and an extraordinary procession.
The Hermandad del Santo Entierro de Paradas brought its fiftieth anniversary celebrations to a close this Sunday. The Archbishop of Seville, José Ángel Saiz Meneses, presided in the afternoon over a mass in the Plaza de España in the town, after which the brotherhood's paso made an extraordinary procession.
Half a century since the first procession
The brotherhood commemorates this year the 50th anniversary of its first procession. As detailed by the Archdiocese of Seville, the anniversary has been remembered throughout the year with a lecture series, a charity band contest, several exhibitions and a triduum at which the brotherhood was awarded the Gold Medal of the Villa de Paradas. This Sunday's event was the central celebration of the anniversary.
A mass with a large turnout
The Eucharist was concelebrated by the parish priest, Juan Dorado, and was attended by the mayor, Rafael Cobano, along with other representatives of the municipal corporation and civil and military authorities. Also present were the brotherhood's board of government, members of the boards of government of other Paradas brotherhoods and representatives of brotherhoods from nearby towns such as Arahal and Marchena.
During his homily, the archbishop said that these fifty years are a "privileged occasion to look back with gratitude, live the present with responsibility and look to the future with hope". Saiz Meneses linked the anniversary motto, "50 años repartiendo Misericordia", with the need not to separate "worship and charity, prayer and service, procession and everyday life".
The procession and the music
The mass was accompanied musically by the choir of the Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno de Alcalá de Guadaíra. At the end of the Eucharist the extraordinary procession took place, accompanied by the Banda de Cornetas y Tambores Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Presentación al Pueblo de Dos Hermanas. According to the Archdiocese, the return is expected at three in the morning.
