Cáritas accompanied 399 homeless people in Seville in 2025 and opens a night centre
Cáritas Diocesana de Sevilla assisted 399 homeless people in the city during 2025. The network now expands with the Centro de Noche Saiz Meneses, with 12 places, and the organisation calls for more affordable housing and effective access to social services.
Cáritas Diocesana de Sevilla accompanied 399 homeless people in the city during 2025, according to the care data that the organization has presented on the occasion of the Day of Homeless People, which is commemorated on Sunday, October 25. The response is organized into four parish street outreach projects, a residential center and two supported housing flats.
Street outreach and residential resources
Four parish street outreach initiatives accompanied 357 people. The Beato Pedro Dónders project, of the parish Cáritas of Santísimo Redentor (Nervión), served 122; Lázaro, of San Sebastián (Porvenir), 91; Levántate y Anda (Centro), of San Vicente Mártir, 78; and Emaús, in Triana-Los Remedios, 66.
The Centro Amigo offers a residential response with 20 places and two supported housing flats. From these resources, 42 people were accompanied during 2025. Seven continued their journey in the supported housing flats and eight reached the goals set, moving toward greater autonomy or accessing a suitable residential resource.
A new night center with 12 places
The Centro de Noche Saiz Meneses is added to this network, recently inaugurated and the result of the II International Congress of Brotherhoods and Popular Piety. It will have capacity to shelter 12 people overnight, previously referred by the Cáritas street outreach projects that already accompany them. According to the director of Cáritas Diocesana de Sevilla, Miguel Ángel Carbajo, the center "aims to be a safe space from which to strengthen the bonds begun on the street."
89 % of the people accompanied in Sevilla were men. Cáritas warns that homeless women must not be made invisible, as their situations are often less visible and are linked to trajectories of violence, insecurity or highly precarious housing. The teams note an increase in people with mental health problems without adequate residential resources, in people with income who cannot access housing, and in recently arrived migrants in an irregular administrative situation.
What Cáritas asks for
The organization calls for a housing policy that increases affordable alternatives and takes into account the real level of income and benefits. It also asks for effective access to social services, to municipal registration and to benefits, more agile procedures for the recognition of disability and dependency, continuous health and mental health care, and adapted training and employment pathways.
Across Andalucía, the Cáritas Diocesanas accompanied nearly 5,000 people in situations of homelessness during 2025, with the work of 118 professionals and 700 volunteers and an investment of more than 4.3 million euros. In the diocese of Sevilla, the investment exceeded 1.1 million, with 294 volunteers and 23 professionals in the street projects.
The campaign
This year's campaign, organized by Cáritas with the collaboration of FACIAM, the Xarxa d’Atenció a Persones Sense Llar and the BesteBi platform, has the slogan "A HOME is much more than a place to live, it is a place to belong." The president of Cáritas Regional de Andalucía, Francisco José Sánchez Heras, has stated that "homelessness cannot be addressed only as a lack of housing" and has called for action on the causes that expel and isolate people.
