Mairena del Alcor dedicates November to flamenco with recitals and workshops

Flamenco fills Mairena del Alcor's calendar throughout November. The Town Council has organised the Noviembre Flamenco programme around November 16, the date on which UNESCO declared this art Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to the Consistorio. The schedule combines recitals, lectures, workshops and educational performances. The programme opens with the Jerez-born singer Ezequiel Benítez, who performs on November 12 at the Teatro Calixto Sánchez. Tickets cost 5 euros, are part of the cultural season pass and go on sale on November 9 at 9:00. On November 13 and 14 the IX Seminario Antonio Mairena is held, with lectures on the role of women in cante and the competition. The singer Antonio Hermosín closes the sessions. Registration opens on November 4 at 9:00 at the seminar's page. On November 18 comes the Gala Temple y Pureza at the Teatro Municipal Calixto Sánchez, with live interviews, cante and the participation of Manuel Castulo, Jesús Méndez and Luis Perdiguero. Invitations are given out on November 9 from 9:00, online and in person at the Villa del Conocimiento y las Artes, with a maximum of two per person. The Viernes Jondos season starts on November 27 at the Casa del Arte Flamenco Antonio Mairena, with the singer Inés Bacán as the main figure. In addition, there are introductory and flamenco awareness workshops at the Juan Caraballo and Isabel Esquivel schools, in collaboration with the Fundación Cristina Heeren. For the recital on November 12 you must buy the ticket, at 5 euros, from November 9 at 9:00. For the seminar on the 13th and 14th you must register from November 4 at 9:00 on the website indicated.
