The Official Section of the Seville European Film Festival (SeFF) adds two more titles to its competition for the Giraldillo de Oro. According to the City Council, the world premiere of «El director», by Dani de la Orden, and «A Long Winter», by Andrew Haigh, join the list of films competing for the main award of the 23rd edition.

Two literary adaptations

Both films come backed by literature. «El director» is based on the book of the same name by journalist David Jiménez. «A Long Winter», for its part, is an adaptation of a story by the Irish writer Colm Tóibín. The world premiere of «El director» in Seville means the film will be seen for the first time at the festival, before its arrival in commercial cinemas.

A festival with 17 films in competition

The Official Section of this edition brings together 17 films. The event is held from Friday, November 6 to Saturday, November 14 and is organised by the Seville City Council, with Manuel Cristóbal as director. In the 2025 edition, the festival brought together more than 67,800 spectators, according to the data handled by the City Council, which placed it as the fourth film festival in Spain by attendance and the first in Andalusia.

New venue at Espacio Turina

The big novelty this year is the change of main venue. For the first time, the Espacio Turina, on calle Laraña, will be the centre of the festival: there will be the press room, the accredited area, the presentations and the meetings with the public, as well as the screenings of the Official Section and of Special Screenings. The films are also distributed across Mk2 Cinesur Nervión Plaza, the Cine Cervantes, the Teatro Alameda, Avenida 5 Cines, Odeón Plaza de Armas, Cartuja Center CITE, the CICUS and CaixaForum.

Honorary Awards

Agnieszka Holland and the Cartoon Saloon studio will receive the Honorary Awards of this edition.
