The oil mills of the province of Sevilla can now apply for the awards for the best extra virgin olive oil of the 2026-2027 campaign. The Diputación de Sevilla has published in the Boletín Oficial de la Provincia (BOP) the rules for the three categories called: the general award, the one reserved for the Sierras de Sevilla and the organic oil award.
The deadline to submit the documentation is ten working days and is counted from the day after the publication of the extract of the call in the BOP, which was Wednesday, October 28. That is, the deadline is already running.
The total budget foreseen is 150,000 euros, distributed as 50,000 euros for each of the three categories. The awarded oils will also have a promotional campaign during 2027, with gastronomic events and other activities aimed at the public and specialized sectors.
Who can apply and with what oil
The holders of authorized oil mills that have the oil mill, the winery and the registered office in the province of Sevilla may enter. The oil must be bulk extra virgin, come from olives harvested in the province during the 2026-2027 campaign and be part of a homogeneous batch of at least 8,000 litres.
In the organic category the minimum volume drops to 2,500 litres and the corresponding certification is required. The Sierras modality is reserved for oil mills domiciled in the municipalities of the Sierra Oriental, Sierra Occidental and Sierra Sur areas listed in the rules.
Each oil mill may enter one or several categories, with a single sample per award it applies for.
How the winning oil is chosen
The Diputación will collect the samples at the facilities of the participating oil mills. Each oil will undergo physicochemical analyses and a sensory evaluation by an official panel of tasters. From this a maximum of three finalists per category will emerge, to be evaluated by a jury of seven expert tasters. The award will be decided by administrative resolution.
How to submit the application
The form for the chosen category must be filled in and accompanied by a responsible declaration on compliance with the requirements and a commitment to deliver the oil if it is awarded. The documentation can be submitted through the Registro Electrónico General of the Diputación, accessible from the Dipusevilla website, or in person at the electronic registry assistance offices. The complete rules and the application forms are on the official channels of the Diputación and in the BOP announcement.
