The Parque del V Centenario in Utrera will have new children's play equipment, fountains adapted to regulations, more barbecue areas and better lighting. The Local Governing Board has approved the project to improve and refurbish this space, which will involve an investment of 381.625 euros, according to the City Council.
The action comes after years in which, in the opinion of the mayor, Francisco Jiménez, the park "has not received the maintenance it should have had". The mayor presented the project at a press conference and defended a comprehensive intervention to restore the facilities and allow residents to use the grounds normally.
What is going to be fixed
The works include improving the paths and walkways, with repair of kerbs, and the rehabilitation of benches and monoliths. Litter bins, signs and information boards will also be replaced.
In the children's play areas, the play equipment and safety surfaces will be changed next to the Puerta del Santuario and the Puerta del Monaguillo. The bio-healthy area will have new equipment and grass surfacing.
The fountains will be repaired and adapted to regulations with chlorination systems, and the drinking water fountains distributed around the grounds will be refurbished. The disused portable toilets will also be removed, after the construction of the new facilities.
The barbecue area will be renovated and expanded, with the replacement of the most deteriorated ones and the installation of new units to increase capacity. The project is completed with the replacement of the entrance gate of the Puerta de la Coronación and specific improvements to public lighting and the play area.
The park covers about 12,5 hectares that were formerly part of an orange grove and preserves close to 2.000 orange trees, most of them centuries old. In addition to a walking area, the grounds have facilities for football, tennis and padel, Huertos Sociales, a bar, public toilets, benches, tables and fountains.
