Los Rosales celebrates this Saturday, October 10, the centenary of its sugar factory, the Azucarera San Fernando, an industry that marked the economic and social life of the municipality for decades. As a tribute, the chimney will once again emit smoke symbolically between 9:00 and 11:00, recovering an image that accompanied several generations.

A day of community gathering

The celebration begins on Friday, October 9, with the sugar factory illuminated in different colors. On Saturday, after the symbolic smoke, the day will unfold throughout the day at the Recinto Ferial de Tocina y Los Rosales with activities for all audiences. At 12:00 the municipality's flag will be raised. At 16:00 there will be a zumba fitness masterclass; at 17:00 Malamanera will perform; DJ Cele will offer two sessions, at 18:30 and from 22:00, and at 20:00 DJ Baste will perform. The factory siren, which marked shift changes, will also be brought back.

History of the factory

The Azucarera San Fernando began operating in 1926, during a period of expansion of irrigation and beet cultivation. It generated employment and attracted population, and the railway reinforced the town's role as a communications hub. It operated for about six decades and closed in 1986, but its chimney remains a symbol of identity.

Later program

The program will continue in autumn with initiatives on industrial heritage and local history. Among them, the XXI Jornadas de Historia y Patrimonio de la Provincia de Sevilla, organized together with the Asociación Sevillana de Cronistas e Investigadores Locales (ASCIL), which will be held on October 24 and will dedicate a talk to the Azucarera San Fernando and the Destilería de Alcohol de Los Rosales.
